Metalab is particularly suited for dental professionals who have access to scanning and printing technologies, allowing them to leverage digital flows.
Metalab is a digital dental lab developed by the Dentcof Group, designed to streamline the process of creating restorative dental designs. It operates under a simplified protocol that enhances efficiency and collaboration between dentists and technicians, particularly for those utilizing digital technologies in their practices.
Metalab is particularly suited for dental professionals who have access to scanning and printing technologies, allowing them to leverage modern digital workflows in their practices effectively
The 2D design serves as a visual representation of the treatment, and it is essential to ensure accuracy by selecting the appropriate shapes and position in accordance with biological possibilities. The dentist or technician typically creates the 2D design, but it is advisable to involve the patient in the decision-making process to ensure that their preferences and desires are taken into account. This will help to avoid any discrepancies before proceeding to the 3D design.
Orders are placed directly on your prefered Smile Design and the payment is charged by card. Once you’ve placed your order, a Metalab representative will be automatically connected to your case, and you can discuss any specific indications that you may have. Based on your case requirements, a technician will be assigned to your case, and you’ll have the freedom to communicate with them in the case chat during the course of treatment.
Since orders are placed based on the approved 2D design with selected shapes, any changes of shapes on a delivered design will require a new order. However, the design includes one revision, which enables you to request changes in position and angulation. For prompt delivery, it is recommended that you have all the necessary initial documentation available.
Communication is key for achieving results as a team, so don’t hesitate to talk about the planning and requirements.
The technician will upload a preview file of the design for your review, and you may request a revision if necessary. Once the preview is approved by you, the printable file is finalised and uploaded to the case for you to download and print / mill in your office.
The motivational design is used to visually simulate changes in both teeth and tissue helping the patient understand the esthetic potential and implications of the treatment. The Motivational is designed on top of existing teeth and tissue and is only used as a communication asset.
The Motivational design is fully additive and can be transferred to the mouth before any adjustments. It should not be used as a preparation guide or for crown lengthening procedures. Due to its vestibulary position, the scale of the shapes is slightly enlarged to allow transfer to the mouth exclusively to communicate esthetic potential to the patient.
You receive a ready-to-print .stl file
Please note, that the revision includes changes in the position, scale, or angulation of the tooth shapes. Changes to the approved shape library requested during or after the revision will require a new order.

The Functional design is created in an ideal position factoring in the patient’s occlusion, biology, and CBCT data. The functional design follows the Smile Design selected library and position. It serves as a reference for:

The Functional design can not be transferred to the mouth before reductive procedures are executed: pre-preparation and/or crown lengthening. It is recommended that the patient accepts the treatment plan before ordering this service.
Please note, that the revision includes changes in the position, scale, or angulation of the tooth shapes. Changes to the approved shape library requested during or after the revision will require a new order.

The Crownlengthening guide is designed following the zenith contour of the Functional design, factoring in the patient’s CBCT data. It is a ready-to-print .stl file design with an upper margin of 3mm indicated for:
You receive a ready-to-print .stl file
The Crownlengthening guide can not be ordered without a prior Functional design, as it follows the position of the final restorations.

You receive the number of restorations as ready-to-mill individual.stl files
Prep scans must be high quality, taken with retraction cords, visible margins, and if necessary, scanposts. A pre-check on the day of the prep is recommended to ensure that the prep scans are correct and validated by the technician.
The Digital restorations in All on X cases should be used for provisional only.
Metalab does not provide digital frameworks for layering full ceramic bridges.
For implant cases, consult with the Metalab team about the type of implants, to ensure that the component digital library exists.
